Article - Maintenance Parable
Machine maintenance - like brushing your teeth!
We take care of our oral health by brushing our teeth, morning and evening in most cases. It prevents bad breath and if we don't take care of it, it will show in the annual dental visit. If you brush your teeth well, there is a good chance that you won't have any holes, if you brush your teeth incorrectly, there will usually be expensive repairs.
Agricultural machinery also needs to be looked after at all times. They need to be cleaned, lubricated, adjusted and given new wearing parts. Properly cared for, there will be much longer between unwanted downtimes, and they can be used for several seasons. It's just like the teeth and the dentist.
It is important to get the routines in place to take care of the maintenance, and to have everything done continuously during operation. (Just like having your teeth brushed morning and night, greater chance of a good kiss then. And it's important not to miss brushing around the wisdom teeth at the back, food remains there will cause poor oral health and cavities.) If you would try to collect the whole week's tooth brushing until Saturday, it won't have the same effect. The teeth will be very clean on Saturday, but the risk that there will be fewer kisses during the week and that there will be holes in the teeth by the next dentist visit increases drastically. It's the same with the machines, they constantly need new oil, new grease and dirty machines rust. If you drive for too long between maintenance sessions, the machine wears out unnecessarily, it's like caries. If you forget a grease nipple, more than one layer can fall apart. An overheating can damage more parts around it and in the worst case cause a fire.
Get the maintenance done! It saves a lot of money. More polishes and fewer repairs also apply to the machines.
